This project was a university module with the purpose to raise awareness on the topic of child abuse, specifically that which isn’t always noticed. I had chosen to produce a short video advertisement for NSPCC (The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty) which is a charity campaigning and working in child protection. This advertisement was produced with the intention to be shown during television intervals to draw the most varied age range of audience.

Through my research I discovered that not all abuse which occurs towards children is evident or even recognised. Reasons for this are that children are often so young and cannot identify abuse as something detrimental which can be resolved by telling a teacher or another adult. However, almost all children who have suffered abuse can associate it with negativity and fear.

To curb this matter, I decided to design this video from the child’s perspective, where he/she is writing a piece on uses of objects in the classroom. In this instance, a ‘broom’ which is used for cleaning at school but, it’s a tool for abusing the child in their home. Viewing this kind of video on televisions can help children and teachers both. Whether or not the child realises the abuse, their teachers should pick up on it if such information is mentioned verbally or in writing. This could also be a silent cry for help from a child, alerting their teacher without having to be vocal about it in front of their peers.
